Bruno meet this guy he’s Jewish, his name is Shmuel with his uniform that looked like a striped pyjamas.
Bruno’s dad was going to send Bruno to Berlin to have a better life.
Bruno went with Shmuel.
However they were crowded into the gas chamber.
When Bruno’s dad realized he had killed his own son, he didn’t care when the soldiers came and arrested him.

The author is telling us about the concentration camps and giving us a warning, to never let it happen again. Even though it happened in WW2.
